Anita's quilts and quilting

A professional longarm machine quilter for hire and some of the work I've done.

Willie’s quilt

This is a small wall hanging.  I wanted something small to finish so I’d feel as if I’m making progress.  She foundation pieced it using muslin as the foundation and its sewn by hand.

It took awhile to see a path for the quilting design.  The quilt had fabric warts but she wanted custom quilting.  Fabric warts are multiple layers of fabric where the pieces intersect.  The intersections have four layers of the top fabric as well as four layers of the muslin too.  That makes for very hard knots of fabric at every connecting point.

I decided weaving feathers would be a good design allowing me to avoid those points.  I used masking tape to mark the feather path.  Marker pens and chalk didn’t show up well.

Here is a close up of the feathers after quilting.  You should be able to click the photo for a closer view.

Another view of the feather and a flower in the space between.

I did simple echo lines in the spaces around the outside next to the border.  I did a back and forth line design on the border to take in the extra fullness.

I believe she will be happy with the quilting.
